Tom Stern, M.D. is an avid adventurer who, during one of his 60+ trips abroad, discovered gold on a remote island in the South China Sea. TShead.jpg - 13.53 KEnthusiastically, he set-up and operated a gold mine until a rash of killings by terrorists linked to the Abu Sayaff forced its closure. This, along with his five adventure-filled expeditions searching for the legendary Yamashita Gold, inspired his first novel, Gold Fever.

Based upon his knowledge of medicine, the Vatican, and international terrorism, Stern's second book, Vatican Gold, imagines a highly skilled team of courageous specialists equipped to dramatically deal with the new reality of threats faced in our post 9/11 world.

Having worked as a physician for over 30 years, Stern most recently turned his literary attention to the telling of a gripping story of life-changing surgery -- once again in the wild outback regions of the Philippines, his "second home." His compelling saga of a volunteer surgeon repairing the disfigured faces of poor island children joins other prestigious voices of our day in exploring The Heart of Healing.
